A British botanical work published in 1760 refers to the trillium as “the herb True Love of Canada.” This delicate flower is the provincial flower of Ontario.
Supplies
- white, yellow and green felt
- modpodge
- wire
Tools
- scissors
- wire cutters
- paint brush and wax paper
- straightening iron (or regular iron)
1) Cut your felt pieces.
2) Take the felt yellow rectangle and coat one side with modpodge. Allow to dry.
3) Once dry, cut even little slits into the top 2/3 of that rectangle. Cut a 15cm piece of wire and roll the base of the felt (the non cut section) around one end of the wire, to form the stamin. Secure with hot glue where needed. Set aside
4) Cut 6 pieces of wire, around 15 cm in length. Take your 3 petal pieces and 3leaf pieces and cut each piece in 1/2, vertically along the center. For each petal and leaf, take one side, apply hot glue along the center edge, place a piece of wire along the hot glue and place the other side overtop, sandwiching the hot glue and wire in between the felt.
5) With scissors, refine the edges as desired.
6) Iron vertical folds on the sides of the petals with a straightening iron. Careful not to heat the glue in the center of the petal.
7) Attach the petals to the stamin by wrapping the petal wires around the base of the stamin, spacing them out evenly. Attach leaves between the petals.
8) Starting at the base of the leaves, wrap a strip of green felt around the wire, using hot glue to secure as you go.
9) Bend the wires in the petals and leaves to form an opened flower
