This is a fuzzy cow you can pet! The bison is a symbol of my home province, having an important economic and symbolic history. So when I saw the Bison dolls on Boolah Baguette's website, it stirred some homesickness, and I was inspired to make one for myself, with what I had on hand. Below is how I did it.
Supplies:
- scissors
- one brown sock
- dark grey or black felt for nose and horns
- 2 button eyes
- 4 black or brown pompoms
- needle and thread
- embroidery thread
- fiber fill for stuffing
- fake fur trim (this was from the the dollar store, but fabric places sell these strips as well)
How to assemble:
3) Stuff the body and using a little more fiber fill, attach the nose - think of a sock monkey, but sideways, down the center of the face.
4) Take your fake fur trim and line up to the top of the head. Estimate how much fur you will need for the front of the head, be sure to include some seam allowance (like an extra centimeter). Use this piece to cut 3 more strips. Sew 3 strips together (this will make the front, back and the "party in the back" mullet), and cut end piece so it tapers down in a pointed end. Cut the front beard so it too tapers down.
5) From felt, cut the nose piece and 4 pieces for the horns
7) Attach the felt nose piece using embroidery thread (note the nostrils)
8) Attach the button eyes, ears and tail (don't stuff the ears or tail)
9) Stuff and attach the front legs and horns.
10) Take your large fake fur piece, fold the top part down and sew up the sides (the taper part should just hang down) to make sort of a pocket with fur side in.
11) Turn the "fur pocket" inside out and attach to the top of the head (should rest just above the top of the nose). The tapered part should run down the back, be sure and attach this to the body as well.
12) Attach by sewing the beard under the nose, with the ends touching where the bottom of the ears rest.
13) Finish off the Stuffie by adding the pompoms to the ends of each leg.
